Hi Earth lovers!
My name is Marianna, I am a Musicology student from Rome. I have the honour to be the first carrier of beautiful Earth 25, and I’d like to tell you the story of the beginning of it’s journey step by step.
I have always believed that one of the most powerful things on earth is communication, intending this word in a sense strongly connected to its etymology, from the latin verb communicare, which means “to share, to be part of something, to be in a relation with somebody/something, to take part in something”. Among all forms of communication, the one in which I believe the most is music. Quoting a dear friend, “Music is my Medicine”: I get my nourishment from listening to it, and I have played the piano since I was a kid.
When I received the globe (see picture), I thought that I could communicate with the Earth, “be part of it” by communicating, sharing it’s concerns with the people around me, using my real language: music.
Since last fall I’ve had the pleasure to play with an awesome songwriter and singer, Claudia Gallanti (a.k.a. Dira). So as soon as I told her about my being part of the project, she became involved too, and we decided to carry Earth 25 together.
We thought that in order to take care of the Earth we should start by taking care of the bit of it we live in every day: so we decided to play on a street near my house, and to ask people not to give us money but to lend the Earth a hand by helping cleaning the street. The thing we cared most about was to get some attention, to make people ask “why are you doing this?” and so to spread the word and make as many as possible aware of how important it is to care about the environment that hosts us.
My boyfriend Andrea and I paint together (he’s a sculptor and modelist, too), so we prepared a 3D painting with the logo of the project.
Due to bad weather we had to delay our event, but on Saturday November 17 we finally made it.
Here is a video to glance at (and/or to listen to) what we did. Since we are musicians but neither photographers nor videomakers, the quality isn’t that good… But I hope you’ll enjoy it anyway!
At the end of the morning, we passed the globe to Fabio, a precious friend of mine.
Have a nice journey, Earth 25!
