CEC child holding Earth 2 in hands.

As sponsors of Earth 2, we are excited to be the first hands to carry this Earth and pass it among our seven School-Age After-School Programs for children in La Canada and Pasadena, California

The Child Educational Center is a caring educational community where:

  • Children are valued, thrive, and reach their full potential as individuals and contributing members of society.
  • The community and its members are enriched by the participation of each individual.
  • There is a commitment to the realization of similar ideals throughout the world.

With this vision in mind, we seek to cultivate a sense of community amongst the children we serve, challenging them to actively think about their role in their communities and how the actions they take impact the world around them.

Earth 2’s first stop was with the School-Age children, ages 6-11 years old, at our Caltech site in Pasadena, California.

When tasked to think about our home planet and the concerns we have about our location on the earth, the children agreed that their biggest concern was not having a clean community. We decided that we were going to address this by cleaning up trash at our local park, recycling the recyclable materials, and saving whatever we could to reuse for art projects.

We gloved up and headed out, working as a team to clean up one of our favorite parks, which we visit most Friday afternoons. This was a great learning experience for all the children, and they even inspired other children and adults at the park to join us in collecting trash.

It is our hope that we can continue to feel responsibility to the communities we are a part of and act as stewards for the places we call home.

In the simplest gesture of picking up waste, we prompted others to do the same, and we dream of all the good that can come when we inspire each other to work together to heal our planet.

Next stop, our School-Age Program at La Canada Elementary School!
